NFT lending and Oort Heroes

What is Oort Digital?

Taking the words from their website:

Oort Digital is one of the first crypto projects that exclusively focuses on building the whole GameFi ecosystem. We aim to build a super account for NFTs to be played out in variety of ways with seamless user experience in mind. If Bitcoin adds the monetary layer on top of the internet protocol, then Oort Digital’s ultimate goal is to add the DeFi layer on top of the whole Metaverse.

So, well, it may be quite obscure for many people, so let’s try to simplify. Oort digital revolve around NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens): objects which can be identified individually on the blockchain, as opposite to the currencies which are fungible: nothing differentiate 1 USD, 1 EUR, or 1 BTC, from another. Oort aims to be a place where you can gather your NFT to make use of them.

The main features Oort is going to implement is the lending and borrowing of NFTs:

  • If you have a NFT, you could place it in Oort application and lend it. Other people will then be able to borrow it, paying you back a fee.
  • In order to mitigate the risk for one NFT to be “stolen” (not returned), the borrower need to stake a collateral which will be liquidated if the NFT is not returned after a specific time period.

In addition, Oort Digital will also implement a standard NFT market where you can sell and buy some NFTs.

Ok, but where is the “Game” point?

In addition to be this place to trade and lend NFT, Oort Digital is developing a DeFi game with their Oort Heroes. From my understanding, Oort Heroes are a bit like Aavegotchis: they are NFTs in which you can stake currencies. You will get a passive income from the staked currencies and you can train your heroes to improve their efficiency.

Some example of Oort heroes

Oort Heroes have several statistics: Generation, Clan, Power, Rarity, Collateral, Wearable, and Abilities:

  • Generation is a global indication of the Hero rarity: Gen 0 and Gen 1 Heroes will have a limited supply.
  • Clan is the Hero type, some will be limited to specific Generations. At the beginning there should be 4 different clans: “Pioneers” (Gen 0), “Ocean Protocol” (Gen 1), “Sablier” (Gen 1), and “Ordinary” (Gen 2). The Clan may give some special abilities to the Hero, like allowing it to stake a specific token.
  • Power will be a “level” for the Hero, it will determine how much passive income the Hero will earn. It will be calculated from the values of the Hero’s Rarity, Collateral, Wearable, and Abilities. Except for “Rarity”, the other statistics will increase over time.
  • The Rarity score will depends on the Generation, the Clan, and the general Appearance of the Hero (ex: a red hair Hero will be rarer than a brown hair Hero in general). It seems a Hero without red nose will be pretty rare, I notice most of them appear to have one.
  • The Collateral score will increase depending on how often the Hero is lend/borrow: lender and borrower will receive points (“notes”) when exchanging the Heroes and will be able to use these points to increase the Collateral score of the Hero. Additional details should come later.
  • The Wearable score will increase over time depending on the Hero generation, and on the “Wearables” (other NFT) staked on the Hero. The Wearable system is not yet fully defined, but preliminary idea is that the Hero will receive randomly up to 5 Wearable skills, each will have a level and a point gain rate. They will also activate a special bonus if an associated Wearable is staked on the Hero. Example: an Hero has an “Axe” NFT giving him 12+6 points. If he doesn’t have the “Axe” skill he will only get 12 points, whereas if he has the “Axe” skill, I will get 18 points. The Wearable skill’s levels will also indicate how many Wearable the Hero can equip.
  • The Abilities score will also increase over time depending on the Hero’s Rarity. The Abilities system is not yet fully defined, but preliminary idea is that the Hero will have 4 characteristic: Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Endurance, each will have a point gain rate. These characteristics point gain rate could be improved by using some potions.

As you can see, the Hero system is not yet fully defined. There are still some unclear points regarding the Collateral, Wearable, and Abilities scores, which I hope will be clarified soon. I summarized at the best of my understanding but there may be some confusion, if you find any issue, will free to tell me about.

Most of the information come from the 1st version of the tokenomics file, which can be find here.

How can we get Heroes?

Oort Digital will make the Heroes available through Airdrop or Mint. There is not yet any information about how Heroes will be Minted, but an Airdrop is currently on-going.

For this Airdrop, users are encouraged to achieve up to 10 Missions in order to get some Heroes. There are 10 different Missions and achieving then will give you:

  • One Pioneer Builder if you complete the Mission 10
  • Two Pioneer Heroes if you complete the Mission 6
  • One Pioneer Hero if you complete the Mission 1

Pioneer Heroes will be Gen 0 Heroes as explained before. There is no information about Pioneer Builders yet. Another Airdrop was already done and completed for Ocean Protocol Heroes.

If you want to join the current Airdrop, you should join the Oort Digital Discord here.
